Hometown: Sacramento Family: Married to Michele for 12 beautiful years. I have a 23 year old daughter and 20 year old son from a previous that are off on their own and thriving. Racquetball Background: First picked up a racquet at 43 (1996) and I'm currently 55. At the age of 45 a friend and my wife (Michele) conspired to get me to play in a tournament and after they presented the idea to me I had a 'sit down' with Michele. "Wife", I said, "if you get me to play this tournament there is NO turning back. Once I start something I take it as far as possible." Side note: I could tell this would be the case with racquetball as it was just TOOOO much fun!! Michele's response; "Goooo Honey GOOOO". She has been a constant nag ever since, "GO PLAY HONEY, GO PLAY!" Since that time, through LOTS of play and the great insights of John Ellis, I've become a low Open player and Michele now joins me in play twice a week and is a strong B player herself. As far as REAL titles I have only one; I am currently the 50+ WORLD Outdoor Champion (thanks to Ruben not playing the division). This game is just TOOO MUCH FUN! Racquetball Goals: Personal: KEEP PLAYING! and having fun. Organization: Obviously to see it grow. Find ways to bring in the younsters, keep the current players and return those folks who once played in the 'heydays' of racquetball. Other Sports Background: I've been a 'jock' all my life, football, baseball, basketball, golf, swimming, soccer, track, bowling and this was just teams in high school. Due to eye issues I had to give up on my dreams of a being a professional golfer and baseball player but the eyes issue didn't effect my bowling game. So... I became a professional bowler and did so for about a dozen years. Since returning from the bowling tour I've been active in softball, basketball, baseball and soccer teams. Then at 43 I found racquetball. |

There is also an “Advisory Board” of members who are working alongside the Board of Directors to help with the CSRA programs. These are not voting positions, but a great way to help out. If you have some ideas for what the CSRA can do to build racquetball, drop Larry a line to discuss the ideas and see if you'd like to participate on the advisory board. Current advisory board members include:

Hometown: Lodi Family: Married with children Racquetball Background: I first played racquetball in the mid 70’s, my dad used to play and I would go with him to the club and hit the ball around in between their games. I played off and on for several years when I could find people to play with me; I also took a class at Delta College. Finally around 1993 I hooked up with some guys at my club and started playing on a regular basis, My first tournament was the “Merced Spring Open”, after that I was hooked. I took some well need lessons and began to move my way up the ranks. It wasn’t long after that I started helping out Barbara Tibbens with the league at my home club as well as at West Lane in Stockton, then it moved into helping run the tournaments in both Lodi and Stockton. At that time Barbara was also a board member of the CARA and got me involved at the state level. A couple of years later I took over running the leagues and the two tournaments at my home club. I teach a junior class as well as give single and group lessons. Currently, John Ellis and I have been running tournaments together now for about 4 years throughout Northern California. Racquetball Goals: To keep the sport of racquetball alive and thriving in California and to be a part of improving the sport and making it more visible and accessible to the public. |

Hometown: Danville Family: I am the oldest kid in my family, as I have two younger sisters, Jessica and Julia age 13 and 15 Racquetball Background: I am currently a senior at Monte Vista High School in Danville where I play on the soccer team, head up the Science Alliance Club, and participate in NHS (National Honor Society) and CSF (California Scholarship Federation). I also enjoy playing the piano and volunteering in the community whenever I can. Racquetball Goals: I started playing racquetball at Club Sport San Ramon at the age of 10 with Chris and Lee Hardiman. After taking some lessons and playing in a few tournaments, I was hooked, as there is nothing more exhilarating for me than a rigorous game of racquetball. I have been sponsored by Ektelon for the past 6 years, and it’s been a great experience for me, as Ektelon is an incredibly supportive racquetball company. I play in the state and junior national tournaments every year, as well as adult tournaments all over California, so I’ve met a lot of wonderful people in the racquetball community. In addition, I participate in the amazing racquetball league and ladder Elaine Dexter has put together at Club Sport Pleasanton. I also recently joined the CSRA Board as a junior advisory member to help promote racquetball in the state. In particular, I would like to see more growth with our junior and collegiate players. Needless to say, I intend to continue playing racquetball throughout my college years and beyond. |
